This short story was interesting but a little creepy. I had such a sharp picture of this boy, more than I wanted to know in some ways. It bothers me to think there are guys like this out there who think the way this young man does. Still, it's worth reading. The author is good with dialogue and convincing.
I really enjoyed this short story. It was refreshing to read this realistic exploration about female beauty and the way men respond to it, and how people are effected by unrealistic expectations. This story is smart, well-grounded, and thought provoking.
Object of Desire is for readers interested in the complexities of human relationships and attraction. Object of Desire’s unique spin on potential romantic attraction and personal understanding is reminiscent to Junot Diaz’s The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. Self-discovery is a prominent aspect of this story. Much like in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao the writing is free flowing, with accurate conversations amongst characters, but also uses beautiful descriptions when warranted. Overall, Object of Desire is a thoughtful read that you will want to read several times in order to completely digest. I would highly recommend this story to anyone interested in self-discovery, young adult relationships and anyone interested in a great read.
